    Outpatient Surgery allows you to undergo a surgical procedure and recover at home, surrounded by your family and friends, after your discharge. 

    Location:

    Our Outpatient Surgery Center is located at the south end of the main hospital with a parking lot immediately to the east of the entrance. Please use the double door entrance to the facility when you arrive the day of surgery. There will be a staff member or Auxiliary volunteer at the Surgery Receptionist desk as you enter the double door entrance. Outpatient Surgery patients are asked to check in here upon arrival.

    Hours:

    The Outpatient Surgery Center is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

    The Pre-Admission Testing Office is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is located in the Outpatient Surgery Center.

    After 4:30 p.m., Outpatient Surgery patients are asked to check in at the Pre-Admission Testing Office upon arrival

  • Prior To Surgery

    Prior to your surgery:

    The Outpatient Surgery staff will attempt to contact you prior to the day of surgery to inform you of the time you need to report to the Surgical Center. If they are unable to reach you and you have questions, you may call them at (402) 461-5115 until 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    Your physician or the Anesthesiology Department at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare may require you to have tests performed before your surgery. These tests will be scheduled by appointment prior to your surgery, or performed after your admission to Outpatient Surgery.

    The Night Before Surgery

    The night before surgery:

    • Follow all of the orders your doctor has given. .
    • Eat a light supper, unless otherwise directed.
    • Take a good shower or tub bath.

    DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING (INCLUDING WATER) AFTER MIDNIGHT THE DAY OF SURGERY UNLESS APPROVED BY YOUR DOCTOR.

    The Day Of Surgery

    The day of surgery:

    • Do not eat or drink anything, except to take your heart, blood pressure or seizure medications, or those directed by the nurse at the time of your pre-surgical telephone call. Take your medications with a small sip of water, or with just enough water to swallow the pills.
    • DO NOT CHEW GUM, CONSUME HARD CANDY OR SMOKE. 
    • You may rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth but DO NOT swallow any of the water.
    • Please remove all nail polish. Do not wear makeup or jewelry.
    • Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that is easily removed. We will provide you with a gown, robe and slippers.
    • Please leave all valuables at home including wallets and jewelry. Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare will not be responsible for lost items.
    • Please bring insurance/Medicare cards.
    • If you need glasses to read, please bring them with you.
    Arrival at the Hospital

    Arrival at the hospital:

    • Your ride may drop you off at the double door entrance to the Surgery Center. They may park in the lot directly southeast of that entrance.
    • Report to the Surgery Receptionist at the desk directly inside the entrance.
    • We will ask you to arrive an hour to hour and a half before the scheduled start of your surgery. Please arrive on time so we may prepare you for surgery.
    • A member of the Outpatient Surgery staff will escort you and an immediate family member from the Waiting Area to the Pre-operative Area.
    • A registered nurse and the anesthesia staff will review your medical history and your current medications. PLEASE BRING A CURRENT LIST OF ALL YOUR MEDICATIONS. 
    • After you are prepared for surgery, your family may wait with you until you are taken to surgery. They will then be escorted to the Waiting Area. Your doctor will visit with them following your surgery.
    • The planned surgical time schedule is followed, however there may be delays due to unforeseen circumstances.
    • If the need arises due to your medical condition and you are not able to return home following your surgery, you may be taken to a nursing unit for further observation until you are able to go home.
    • The "Home Away From Home," located across the street to the east of the hospital, is a comfortable place to stay for out-of- town patients and their families. Call 402-460-5858 for lodging information.
    • The Snack Bar is located in the Lobby. It offers breakfast, sandwiches, lunch specials and beverages. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • The Cafeteria, located on the Ground Floor, offers cafeteria-style service, a grill area, salad bar and a microwave. It is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
