The Mary Lanning Cancer Center reflects a commitment to local access for diagnosis, treatment and support services in one central location on the main campus of Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare. The footprint of the building is 13,000 square feet with two distinct treatment areas linked by a shared-use core of patient exam rooms and offices.
The eastern side of the facility serves as the Medical Oncology wing and the western portion serves as the Radiation Oncology wing.
Within the Medical Oncology service area there are eight chemotherapy stations and two private treatment rooms. Located within each chemotherapy treatment space are modern technologies such as LCD monitor for TV and DVD viewing, a headphone for private CD and listening capabilities, as well as computer access (shown left). Laptop computers are available for personal use along with a library of educational materials. As a resource center for patients and staff alike, the Mary Lanning Cancer Center offers wireless internet access and has designed touch screen computers for educational use and research needs. A multi-use Conference Room for audio and video conferences, educational sessions, staff meetings and support group gatherings is located near the Center's Main Reception room.
In Radiation Oncology there are multiple state-of-the-arts technologies for simulation, planning, delivery and verification of comprehensive radiation treatment including a 21 MEV Linear Accelerator with a 120 multi-leaf collimator (shown right).
The design and interior features have focused on ensuring that the Mary Lanning Cancer Center is patient-centered for comfort, privacy and reassurance. Interior water features are not only aesthetically and audibly pleasing, but serve as sound inhibitors. Wall coverings and furnishings are practical for ease in maintenance and upkeep while also being visually relaxing and comforting with earthen colors and textures. Natural and electrical lighting are generous, and large windows bring the outside into the therapeutic intent of the entire space of the Cancer Center . Details like the unique lighted shadow boxes (shown below) at the entrance to the Linear Accelerator are part of the Center's vision to help reduce stress and fear during a journey that oftentimes seems overwhelming, and always emotional.
